    fills the gap a bit in explaining why I found in my last diary that some counties had higher turnout than others, where that county didn't fit the racial/ethnic comparison I was using. Not surprisingly, where a county had low turnout but a low non-white population, the county also has a lot of people on food stamps and unemployed, like Linn County.

    But there are also counties with a lot of people on food stamps where there tends to be high turnout, like Crook.

    Interestingly all of the counties that are in the group with the highest percentage of people on food stamps or unemployed voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 and Chris Dudley in 2010.
