  •  It happens in most volunteer organizations (2+ / 0-)

Volunteers are expected to give and give and give of their time, and the organization is always surprised when people say "Enough".

I am in the same situation with my volunteer work with the USO.  I volunteer 50 Tuesday evenings a year, since late 2006.  Every year, I am asked to do more, and lately, the paid staff is getting annoyed that I am not willing to burn myself out for them.

I actually had to remind the program manager that I was a volunteer, and if they wanted more of my time, they could pay for it.

    •  Seen the same thing with the MS Society... (1+ / 0-)

Their events are disorganized debacles, and after a while the best volunteers quit in frustration. For example, I've driven supply truck on a number of MS bike rides and was one of the few drivers who had a CDL and professional qualifications. When the MS Society asked us to do unsafe stuff, we said no and eventually quit. We were replaced by volunteer drivers with no trucking experience... Heck, one of them got stopped by the police and he didn't even have a driver's license!
