  •  There was a big outcry from the fundies (16+ / 0-)

and some evangelicals after the first few in the series came out and the minority who could read spread the word.  They wanted them banned from public but more so school libraries and classroom.

At first I was kind of caught off guard until I remember their crusades a little earlier about all things witch related, including Halloween generally, and then even high school works like MacBeth, The Crucible, Beowulf, etc.  Added to their long lists of other works that the censors condemn as anti-American, socialist, or satanic.

I loved the series and couldn't wait for the next book to come out.

in that outcry when reading the books. My mom freaked and for some reason she thought she'd enlist my aunt and uncle in her outrage, I guess because they found the Catholic Church wasn't conservative enough for them so they switched to a Latin mass alt Catholic church. "Isn't it just terrible?" She demanded. "It's just a book," the uncle said, then packed up the kids to head to the bookstore because the latest installment (4 or 5, don't remember which) was coming out! I loved that.

You're gonna need a bigger boat.
