where the WMD didn't exist (and it's hard to prove the nonexistence of something to somebody who's sure you have it), Assad DOES have WMD. He's admitted it, and he's apparently used them recently.

If he's willing to give them up, and what he turns over matches what's expected, we have no reason to attack him. None at all.

    •  Where's the proof that HE has used them? (2+ / 0-)

The AP asked the administration for the proof: crickets.  We keep hearing about the proof, but the current poll in Congress doesn't reflect overwhelming evidence. Even the Administration has admitted the evidence doesn't meet the probable cause bar.

      •  That's why I said 'apparently' (1+ / 0-)

I agree there's no proof it was him.

However, he has admitted he has WMD, and if he gives them up, has inspectors guarding them, and then people are gassed, it's pretty obvious it wasn't HIM.

There's no downside for him here. He keeps everything else, gets to look reasonable, and if it happens again the rebels look really, really evil.

It's not like those WMD are really helping him at this point.

      •  Watch Charlie Rose interview Assad (0+ / 0-)

        From parts that are released

Assad said he did not "gas his people" to death but if the US strikes, 'his friends' would "gas Americans"

I think that exchange is proof that Assad did, and will, use Sarin to gas people to death.

Not to mention, intel agencies around the world are reporting communication that Hezbollah confirmed to Russia that Syria Govt dropped the Sarin to gas their people to death.

        •  I saw it. He said "terrorists," not "friends" (0+ / 0-)

at least the portion I viewed.  I'm not defending him, and wouldn't be surprised if he is the culprit, but we don't have the evidence--without that, we have no basis for a war of aggression against another country under the UN treaty.

        •  BTW, Hezbollah confirmed it? (0+ / 0-)

Sorry, but that doesn't confirm shit in my mind.

then he would have a major reason not to use the ones remaining.  Because if he did, then he would be exposed as a liar to all the world.

      •  Or, he could blame the use on "terrorists" (0+ / 0-)

which is what he is doing now....we need a credible source is all. Where, who knows.
