    Putin said that Assad would give up "all" his chemical weapons.

    That's credible enough for me!

      And as such, has an obvious interest in deterring an attack that would inevitably weaken Syrian loyalist forces as well as degrading their chemical weapons capability. Giving up the chemical weapons is no big deal. If they were used again, an attack would be absolutely certain. But if they're given up, an attack becomes very unlikely.

      He's a politician who is going for the best possible outcome for his team. He's giving up something useless that has symbolic value in order to lessen the chance of real damage to his guy in Syria. Is that so difficult to understand?
