Half the time I've interacted with the NYPD it's been in touresty areas, yet they still yell profanity at me in situations where cops in any other city would politely say "excuse me ma'am can you please...".  On top of that, I have a long list of horrific abuses my friends have suffered at their hands.  Maybe after the first few extremely negative interactions I had with them, I avoided them so much I never had a chance to see them act decently.

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.

Speaking as a Southerner with many visits to NYC over the last 20 years or so, that applies to many, many New Yorkers beyond those in NYPD uniform.  **laugh**

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...

      •  This is true, & it doesn't bother me when (0+ / 0-)

the people doing it aren't in a position of power over me.  I expect better from the police than "get the fuck out of my way" instead of "can you please step aside".  I don't expect the same courtesy from cab drivers.
