  •  There doesn't seem to be any question that the (0+ / 0-)

    Syrian army did it.
So Assad is responsible. If his brother or some other loose cannon did it without authorization, fine, let the blame lie on them.
However the threat of military action wasn't aimed at Assad, but the Syrian regime in general.
If they make a substantive move to accept the Russian/UN proposal, great.
This wouldn't have happened without the imminent, credible threat of military action by the admin.
As the diarist notes, Assad is a butcher by conventional means, in any case. Hopefully soon he'll see justice.

You can't make this stuff up.

Prove the Syrian Army, which at this point is probably not completely cohesive, "did it".

Assad needs to be replaced, somehow. But at least can we be a reality based community?

I favor the idea of removing the CW from Assad's control. That can be done.

      •  "Oops, a rogue element did it" is not a legitimate (0+ / 0-)

defense of such action. If any element of the Syrian army did it, or a known ally of it, then responsibility goes all the way up the chain of command, whether or not they knew about or ordered it.

        •  Whose interest was served by the CW attack? (0+ / 0-)

Make a list. Look at the possibilities. Ask for evidence.

          •  The regime's (0+ / 0-)

Absent hard proof that some rebel group, the Mossad or Wiley Coyote did this, these are all delusional CT's that have no place on this blog. The regime or an allied group wanted to terrorize its enemies, and damn well did so in this.

            •  What a crock. (0+ / 0-)

Your theory may be right or not.

You have no idea what happened, therefore its CT.

nations. So unless you have proof that they're lying and/or that someone other than the Assad regime was behind this--or that Castro killed JFK--then YOU are the one dispensing CT here--by DEFINITION:
