My father is on Medicare but my mother isn't yet old enough. They have been buying her insurance on the open market, with a basic plan for her costing a bit over $300 a month. They just got premium information for next year. The plan is changing to a "bronze" plan, which has a higher deductible than her current plan. In addition, the premium is increasing to over $600 a month. Of course, the insurance company information makes no mention of any subsidy amount they may qualify for.

looking for good information on the way deductibles will work under Obamacare.

Say your mother gets a subsidy that makes the premium affordable. Or she doesn't qualify because her income is too high. Either way, the presumption is she can afford the premium.

But how does the deductible work?
