are making of giving up the chemical weapons. Or we're listening to them in accepting their offer. Of course, this could just mean Russia is going to send troops into Syria to prop up the regime and secure the chemical weapons.

That Russia LISTENED to and force Syria to comply with.

Jesus Christ, the framing around here is beyond silly.

The administration said yes when they said they were going to put the weapons under international control, that's what I was talking about. The Admin had already walked back the offer so it wasn't even out there really. As illustrated by the inept and confused immediate response. Kerry mouthed off and then back tracked and Russia made an offer and we thankfully have an admin that said yes.

and the Russians pounced on it anyway. If the Russians hadn't taken the initiative to do that, we wouldn't be on this track today. That's why the Russians get credit. It's simple.

Assad's ass. There is a whole lot of win for Russia in that proposal.

            •  Mmmm... Oversimplification... (3+ / 0-)

Assad may be Snidely Whiplash but at least the Russians can bring him to heal, as opposed the amped-up shitshow of the rebel factions fighting for control once he's gone. Putin just stopped this situation from escalating even further. That's how he looks "good".

Besides, are you implying that there was alot of win for us, with the bellicose sabre rattling and GWB rhetoric the Obama administration was pursuing?

Kerry threw out a rhetorical diplomatic solution that "everyone knew" wouldn't work because "everyone" was so dead-fucking-set on bombing shit. He even walked the statement back later, why would he do that if that was part of the plan all along?

But despite the walkback, Putin took the deal that was never really meant to be a deal anyway, and it turns out all those people who said that there could possibly be a diplomatic solution were absolutely correct!

offer it was an answer to a question of what would it take to call off the attacks by the peace making USA (we promise to only blow up a small amount of places and people) and he mentioned it as something far fetched, something "we know" Assad wouldn't do according to MMK.

Then the offer was taken by Russia and MM Kerry's off the cuff answer was walked back by this administration, it was just "rhetoric"we were told on the first walk back.
