  •  I, personally, think that this issue with Syria (5+ / 0-)

is proof positive of the utter incompetence of the Obama administration. Utter and complete incompetence.

It's really sad, actually, because I like these people.

I resent that. I demand snark, and overly so -- Markos Moulitsas.

    •  And the name of that alternative universe is ? (0+ / 0-)

Where I grew up (ie the real world) credible threats of force  were the ONLY way to influence the behavior of bullies.  Assad backed down ONLY  because the POTUS threatened to punch him in the face. If someone had shown up in my neighborhood with your "Give Peace a Chance" and diplomacy bullshit the bullies would have laughed before using their fists to rearrange their  facial features.   What's amazing to me is how many people don't get this basic fact of life that plays out everyday in schoolyards around the world. I have a friend who has a son the same age as   mine in elementary school. About a year ago they both were being bullied. I told my son to make it clear to the bully that if he initiated any kind of violence my son would vigorously defend himself. My son's bully backed down -  whereas my friend spent almost a year trying to work with the school, and sending his son to counseling before finally  having to throw in the towel and  switch schools. Despite the very different outcomes - ie his son at  a different school not by choice(essentially cowering  and hoping  that he won't get picked on again) while my son has had no further problems with the bully or any other bullies  - my friend sticks to his guns preaching  no threats of retaliation even in the face of raw unprovoked aggression. A very noble stance indeed but does nothing to help his son cope with the real world unless you consider spending ones life constantly cowering in fear as being normal.     My son asked me about Syria last night and I explained it in terms of what happened to him and my friends son -  he understood perfectly . It's not rocket science or 11th dimensional chess - it a basic law of the jungle.

Although I'm probably more conservative than the majority of folks here on KOS (a result of age and culture, no doubt), I truly do like our president, and I'm not happy that I've had to lower my expectations of his administration several times.

Even if the bully tactics work, by accident or intent, I'd still hoped for better from this bunch.  Maybe next time around.
