  •  If it had been planned then (17+ / 0-)

they wouldn't have reacted so ineptly and obliviously when Russia and Syria took them up on the offer. They pretty clearly didn't plan this. They certainly didn't plan to lose the vote in parliament. I'm thankful that we've got an administration that takes yes for an answer. I can guarantee that Bush wouldn't have. Nor would McCain or Romney.

Parliament. But I would be surprised if all of this were genuine, unscripted gaffes. Very surprised indeed. That's not like the extremely message-controlled Obama administration at all.

The party of Kennedy is also the party of Eastland. The party of Javits is also the party of Goldwater. Where is our party? Where is the political party that will make it unnecessary to march on Washington?

      •  No, it's not. (9+ / 0-)

But they were already walking Kerry's statement back when the Russians took up the offer. Do you think that was planned?

Even very careful people make mistakes sometimes.

        •  That is true. And of course, I'm not sure. (1+ / 0-)

What I'm pretty sure is not a mistake or gaffe is the good-cop/bad-cop game being played by Obama and to a lesser extent Hagel, on the one hand, and Kerry on the other.

The Kerry chem weapons remark--I'm not really sure. B/c on the one hand the Obama Admin. started walking it back. But on the other, supposedly Obama discussed the possibility with Putin at the G-20. So I don't know.

          •  If it was a plan, why wouldn't the admin (6+ / 0-)

propose this with his big stick? Afterall, that is the carrot and stick approach.

but instead, what some would like us to swallow is:

            The Plan:

            1. Meet at ssummit
            2. US Admin calls for really really really limited strikes, that world doesn't want.
            3. Send SOS out to make a gaffe.
            4. Walk back gaffe.
            5. Have Russia make diplomatic suggestion
            6. Have Syria agree
            7. Have President and SOS doubt sincerity
            8. Have President and SOS cautiously agree to it.
            9. Now have Admin claim this was the plan all along

actually, that looks like a ridiculous and needlessly complicated plan.

It's always a needlessly convoluted and ridiculous plan that could have been done in a far simpler and more direct manner if it was actually the plan.

    •  I know someone (3+ / 0-)

who bought a car that way, went to one of those big tent sales, named a price they thought the dealer would never accept and found themselves signing the paperwork on a new car.

I'm glad it appears the administration is able to say yes as well.
