    Ramoth, maryabein, elwior means anyone making a penny less than $400k/year, they're somewhat correct. Those making more than $100k/year have made out like bandits since income taxes were cut.

    (It also persists because of what's defined as allowable political and public discourse. The top 2 percent of earners aren't middle-class, and neither are the top 5 percent, for that matter.)
