  •  Trace this back to Reagan and Clinton. (2+ / 0-)

The shift was remarkable. Reagan made the government the enemy. Clinton came along and reinforced Reagan's anti-worker, anti-middle class policies under the guise of a "New Democratic" philosophy which had, at its core, the corporate-friendly DLC policies that sought to match political contributions from wealthy donors that had traditionally gone to the GOP.

Since Clinton, there has has been little real economic policy differences between Dems and Republicans. Sure, Obama pushed through healthcare, but even that will prove to be a boon to businesses.

There is no secret to this stuff.

    •  Maybe Regan prez (81-89) start of 50 yr cycle... (0+ / 0-)

      Ends in ~15 years = ~2030.
Things are going to get worse until 2020.
Then shit hits the fan for 10 years.

Good times ramp up in 2030's.

President Clinton's 8 years were years of prosperity; increases in taxes on the one percenters and ending in substantial budget surpluses projected for years to come.

After Clinton comes the Turd's presidency which fucked everything up in so many ways including the 50 yr cycle.

This is what happens when the likes of SCOTUS, Florida, Nader install an illegitimate imposter as pharaoh.

      •  Clinton promoted policies that fed the income gap. (0+ / 0-)

True, he had the dotcom boom to buffer his policy choices, but his repeal of Glass-Steagall, his adoption of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and NAFTA all contributed to the growing chasm between rich and poor in the U.S.
