Have been this righteously indignant about gun violence? Or would you have just skipped it?

Liberals are great defenders of newspeak. Ask yourself what it takes to get that mad about 8-12 child shootings a month, and hundreds dead after arguments, bar shootings, and family annihilators do their thing...

A very good diary that let a stupid distraction become the focus.

I agree with the general point of your comment though...if progressives could get as upset about kids taking bullets as they do about bad words (and the HR-lawyer whine-fests that accompany them), we'd really get something done.

Sometimes, though, on a web where there is so much distraction, you want to shake a little complacency out of readers.  For some reason, we liberals can get very lost on the big picture, and obsess about the minutia while far more linear, dogmatic people run the floor with fundamental freedoms and public safety.  Before the 2nd Amendment is the preamble: Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  Their happiness may be a warm gun, but a kid in the morgue who picked up grandpa's Glock may trump his right to carry if he doesn't cache his weapon. In some states that's a felony. In others it's a desk ticket, as in the lady in West Virginia who left her kid's "starter" rifle in the umbrella stand and LOADED. Desk ticket. Black gal in Mississippi? A few years in jail, and she lost her kids when the toddler found the gun under the bed.

But the distraction put the story in motion. Otherwise it would be the usual eight readers because no one likes facing all of that as a daily reality, yet it absolutely, positively is.
