    •  Yes but... (3+ / 0-)

The cops have said this isn't over.  They are getting the iPad video and will determine the course once that has been reviewed.  They said charges could be filed against none, either or both based on what they recover.

Given the profile of this case and the Sunshine Laws we'll all see what was on that iPad.  If it's very bad towards George (why else would he break it?) the public will not tolerate these cops doing nothing again.

"In Florida when it comes to domestic violence, the person in question doesn't have the right to press charges or not press charges," Hudson said, adding that police investigate and "we either forward charges (to the State Attorney's Office) or make an arrest on scene."

and omara said the gun was visible.

i want to know why the cops lied.

shellie in a twisted way makes sense-she is on probation. wouldnt take much of a threat to get her to say anything

    •  Not sure she "recanted" (4+ / 0-)

She never said she saw the gun on 911 tape,  it was assumed.  When they got there she may have clarified that he was gesturing as if he had a gun, and she presumed..

Bizarrely Mark O'Mara who was at the scene soon after said George was wearing a gun.  Where would he have gotten that impression other than from George?

Unfortunately they are both huge liars with tons of issues.  What we do know about her is that in the past she perjured herself FOR George and at his behast.  We also know that George lied to the police when he told them Trayvon jumped out of the bushes, among other things.

Interestingly the Orlando Sentinel said the father DID have a mark on his face but declined to press charges. If they got that factoid right, that is really puzzling.

is classic abused spouse behavior.  In this case probably highly driven out of fear, instead she's just hoping the monster goes away.  George won't he'll harm others, he's wired wrong.  It looks like this abused wife behavior has extended to the FIL in this instance.

        •  Perhaps it started with the FIL (0+ / 0-)

In other words if she grew up used to abuse she was more likely to put up with it in a marriage, and her parents may have even condoned it.

          Pure speculation of course.

is with an abuser,  do not buy an expensive house for the couple to live in together.

Since she had left him before to stay with her parents and he had a history of domestic allegations that they certainly knew prior to his arrest, I suspect that they condoned his violence on some level and the father might have not pressed charges because he considered it "family business."

            Again pure speculation.

But police told AP they did not find a gun on Mr. Zimmerman, and Lake Mary, Fla., Police Chief Steve Bracknell said that “domestic violence can’t be invoked because she has changed her story and says she didn’t see a firearm."
Who knows if GZ punched FIL? She claimed it in 911 call, FIL didn't press charges.

She claimed GZ threatened them both with gun, then under questioning says no gun.

        Sad drama.

        •  Typical for Domestic Violence (0+ / 0-)

When family members get into physical altercations it is very common for the injured party to recant and decline to press charges. Not only do abused spouses/girlfriends decline to pursue legal remedies, but people in general have a really hard time letting the legal system get involved in familiar disputes that become violent.

    •  It's the prosecutor's office that determines (0+ / 0-)

... whether or not charges will be pressed. FL law does not allow a person to be let off the hook just because the victim doesn't want to press charges. So, we'll see. I imagine the video will determine what happens to Zimmerman moving forward.
