That's all.  Nothing wrong with being crotchety and sitting on the porch and complaining about kids who won't pull their pants up in public.  It's just that this isn't a porch so much as a political blog, and the argument that there's something intrinsic to a generation is not very well thought out.

I'm old too.  And I love to complain about how wrong the kids are today.  Wrong, wrong, wrong!  (Leggings aren't pants, you wrong-ass kids!)  But the political rant about generations is always stupid.  It never fails to piss me off. Glad folks let you know that.  Young folks are gonna save this damned planet, with us or without us.

If what the Diarist is arguing that his generation was better than another I would agree with you. However, if what he is warning against is hubris and complacency and expressing his frustration that despite all that had been accomplished we seem to be in retreat on a number of fronts, he has a point no matter how inarticulately and emotionally he expresses it.

What happened in Colorado yesterday should be a wake up call, as was 2010.

Including a number that pointed out differences in the econcomic circumstances the different generations have had to contend with. I'm of the generation that had affordable college options and reasonable prospects for the "American Dream" of steady employment, home ownership, a chicken in the pot, etc. Subsequent generations have been dealing with a very different picture.

Furthermore, we might know a great deal more about what the diarist's intent actually was had he bothered to participate in the discussion in the comment thread. From what I can see, all but one of his recent comments is a Tip Jar.

“Texas is a so-called red state, but you’ve got 10 million Democrats here in Texas. And …, there are a whole lot of people here in Texas who need us, and who need us to fight for them.” President Obama
