    Think about that in this way: in what arenas have policy and practice improved since then?
    Voting rights? Nope; they're getting eroded as we speak.
    Money in politics? Nope; the SC ruled that is A-OK, with no restrictions.
    Economy? Nobody can point to evidence suggesting that it has.
    Traditional values (in the US, meaning homeownership, class mobility, and "Progress", not what the Evangelicals refer to)? No; it takes far more of a % of our salaries to buy a house, class mobility is disappearing, and nothing seems to be "improving" that I can point to.
    Find me a place or a group of people (again, except for LGBT laws, for which I am grateful) whose prospects have improved since then. Please.
