That's why the rec diary about how NSA was hurting the tech industry was silly.  The two have been cozily in bed for decades.

Reported NSA actions raise serious questions about tech industry partnerships

It’s possible lawsuits from both businesses and consumers may arise if it becomes known specific products and services were designed with backdoors for the NSA without disclosure of that to the buyer in what would be seen as a deceptive practice. Some revelations in June from Snowden about the NSA’s so-called PRISM program for intelligence collection are starting to have legal impacts.
Public prosecutors in France are said to be starting to build a case against the NSA and the FBI for PRISM-related spying on French citizens.

Overall, there’s a kind of gloom in the high-tech industry and wariness among business customers about the  implications of what the NSA is said to be doing in its zeal to be able to conduct intelligence gathering for purposes of national defense.

our fight for transparency has been started? were we pushed into this? not really by design? it's just an evolutionary type thing. it took awhile for "stuff" to surface.

alot of these fundamentals of freedoms cross these imaginary borders nations demarcate... freedom "clouds".. fostering new products, idea's, niche's, creating a connecting mind for "good.." or evil...

i equate this spyin stuff to... back in the day.. as an admin you could poke into people's mailboxes on the LAN.. and maybe this is what is happening now.. peeking.. it is wrong & filthy.. but it has become a global IT network..

now we have the tools to interconnect all this data & have it presented on a legible UI. so it takes alot of the hardwork of it once the data has been stored so that any 1 person w/o oversight or an algorithym(sp) can filter out such info... w/o that person or code to have any prior knowledge to the effort it took to build these "tools" & they become the decider.. "eagleeye'ish"

we've built our own destruction because we could... & handed the keys to the "wrong" people? the carrot of "learning" & "money" & "celebrity" ??

in the end... we find out that we don't need as many jobs in order for the system to now run?

i have weird non conspiring thoughts i guess & it is time to go hallucinageniiiiic... shiznet.

to trust the web or tech.

many of you young hippies, haha, can smirk at older people's tech phobias, but it's real and has been since telephones, and a now common theme among older people, + 50 that I hear is 'they can see everything' etc in addition top all the other suspicions and doubts..well, that is costly to society in a fundamental way at so many levels...all this happy talk about IT problems has seemed to ignore this problem for the most part.
It's not unknown for elders to be distrustful of the youngins, now they think they haz da prufs. And we're cranky!

or IT.. to hate it.. I loved my "mentors.." soo right?

Heard one of my "older" relatives about "party phone" lines... how they would get yelled at by a neighbor 'cuz they could hear breathing... haha..

You are right... the fundamentals of design got looked over in many cases?..

Marketing of the "new" "in" things... I don't own a mobile & doubt if I will ever get one unless I have to enlist again in some corp. master / servant type service... maybe just go back to pager? yuck..

So which begs it.. we can't have anything nice & private can we?

It's tough to know when building something how it will impact the greater good.. ugh.. more should (dislike using those "woulds") have listened...
