"playing" y'all, but I really, really wanted non-NYC eyeballs on this. I think a lot of people here at DK think that we have no troubles at all here in the blue states, that all our electeds are just wonderful. Maybe someday I'll do a piece on all the rotten, corrupt Democrats that I and my local political allies have worked for years to unseat.

I am, in fact, perfectly fine, except for the wrecked feet, and I even got to take a day off today to rest 'em!

And of course I thank you for your tip & rec!

Across the river back in New Jersey... well, corrupt Democrats are the reason that Buono doesn't have a chance against Christie in the Governor's race.  :(

All the Bergen County "Democrats", at least the ones in the country government leadership, are the reason the term "Pay to Play" even exists.  They are in bed with whomever is in power, and Christie is a particularly powerful governor, at least compared to past governors.

And don't get me started on Steve Sweeney from south Jersey...  As if him being in bed with Christie is bad enough, he can't stand the autonomy that Rutgers University enjoys from the State (which is ever dwindling...)

Buono isn't a flashy candidate, but her policy platform is straight Democrat.  There's no reason this race - in a state with a 700,000 Dem voter advantage - shouldn't at least be competitive.  But when the Dem party leaders exemplify the phrase "with friends like that, who needs enemies?", it completely undercuts Buono and she's down 20 points.

      sigh...

you don't need to tell me!

This election appears to have been a good one, though, in terms of getting rid of some of the worst offenders, particularly the odious Vito Lopez, whose political career I think is finally over.
His ouster from the chairmanship of the Kings County Democratic Committee earlier this year was a real step towards breaking the local patronage system, though his successor, when visiting my (extremely progressive and reformist) Democratic club remarked, "hey, there's nothing wrong with patronage!"  But he actually visited my club and spoke to us like we were human, something neither Vito nor his scurrilous predecessor, Clarence Norman, would ever have done. More substantively, we also won rules changes in County Committee that give the reformers some real power.

Now that he's lost his comeback bid, I hope we've seen the last of him.
