Legislation is not their sole function.

I don't really agree with the criticism about Congress taking vacations.  Congress not being in session is not the same thing as a vacation.  Some may play a lot of golf, but a lot of members seem to do a lot of non-legislative work during a recess.

      Pure and simple.

The most violent element in society is ignorance.

    •  Right, it's a knee-jerk theme (0+ / 0-)

Maintaining two residences, loads of air travel, continual rescheduling, gigantic responsibility, cutthroat management, frequent employment reassessment by the public during which objective performance may be ignored...

Sure, a few representatives coast, and most of the time they're looking out for #1. But they're our representatives. Do we want to hamstring our own representatives in government? Do we want to attract good candidates? Accountability should come at the ballot box.

To be sure, when Republicans are running things, session is a lot shorter. And attempting to nullify duly passed law and to gum up the works is malicious failure at the job.

Government and laws are the agreement we all make to secure everyone's freedom.
