    was a real driver of the election.  

    More important than the other two issues by far were issues of comfort or trust with the candidates.

    Liu was distrusted because of the criminal issues surrounding his campaign and because the campaign finance board found so many issues with his fundraising as to deny him matching funds.

    About Weiner no more need be said.

    Quinn was distrusted because of her supporting altering the term limit law to benefit the Mayor, a feeling that she would do anything to achieve power and an incredible ability to make enemies.

    Thompson never defined himself and was so afraid of being seen as too African American that he was unwilling to take a position on stop and frisk or the police inspector general bill. Those failure,s btw, are ultimately why de Blasio won and why the expected racial breakdown in preferences didn't occur.
