A case of civil disobedience, and a bit different than the NM situation, where County Clerk Lynn Ellins courageously started issuing same-sex marriage licenses in the absence of specific legislation pro or con.

but also in the NM case wasn't there a narrow NM ruling which had a bit of an opening for Ellins to begin issuing the licenses.  I wish I had more time and aptitude to follow all of these cases.  The time is ripe and there's very brave folks who are stepping up to accelerate the inevitable.

was a favorable state constitution (no discrimination on sex), several favorable rulings from the present attorney general, and an absense of explicit laws against.  Really the only adverse circumstance was a data-entry form in the statutes specifying male and female applicants for marriage license.  In a sense marriage inequality was being practised here out of habit, not out of law.

Hurrah for Ellins!  Based on our Canadian marriage we didn't really need to, but still for sentimental reasons we were fiftieth in line at Ellin's office.
