  •  I don't think it's conservatism, per se, (4+ / 0-)
"Back in 1970 there was a recession and I had to live off 3.79"- Let me stop you right there. 1. All I can hear is "WHEN I WAS A YOUNG LAD I HAD TO WALK 12 MILES UP THE HILL TO SCHOOL AND IT DIDN'T MATTER IF IT SNOWED!
Several years ago My mom was quick to tell me that she only made $2.30 per hour during my very young years (late 60s / early 70s), and was amazed that I was pulling in ten times as much and somehow struggling in the late 90s.

I sweetly pointed out to her that yeah, I'm making ten times what she did, but prices now are a lot more what they were: Mom's $8000 house is now $160,000; her $70 house payment is now a $1200 payment for me; her $1900 brand-new Chevy Malibu is now my $5000 ten-year-old car, and her small vacation cabin in the woods is my unattainable dream. She wasn't conservative; she just had no clue. Which come to think of it, might be the same thing.

    •  I have conservative relatives living in their (0+ / 0-)

40 yr old memories of gas under a dollar a gallon, and vacations that cost a couple hundred dollars instead of thousands.

      Yes--they are absolutely freaken clueless.

We make 3 times what our parents did, and we are barely
better off than they were way back in the 70s. Just hanging on by a claw.

But gas is 3.50 a gallon, cars cost upwards of 10,000 new, home insurance goes up and up and up with extreme weather damage events every year, health insurance is expensive and college educations are like castles in the sky--pretty to look at but unattainable economically.

Gentlemen, congratulations. You're everything we've come to expect from years of government training (Zed, MIB).

      •  oh but there are people who have noticed inflation (0+ / 0-)

they blame keynesian economist. an associate us with democrats but the truth is the GOP was utterly beholden to monetarism themselves. Both parties has supported the expansion of the money supply. The key difference is if it had been democrats we wouldn't have done it via monetary policy but via fiscal policy. As in the key dream in the party right now is to resurrect he works progress adminsitration. There's an absolute misunderstanding of of economics that happens because their theories sound plausible on the surface but when you dig for causes the illusion shatters. They say we've been living in bubble economies and every time the government intervenes in the economy we pay for it  sometime later up the road. all of this is true, but it begs asking, why?

And when you find out the key divides between fiscal keynesians and monetary keynesian's you find out.

The fed has been printing a bunch of god damn money that's true but the expansion isn't what causes the bubble

the fed creates it out of nothing and LENDS it to us.

That money you're holding in your wallet? While it might be "Yours" technically and legally speaking it's being RENTED to you. it's yours-and it isn't.

What this means is the debt eventually has to be repaid to the federal reserve.

if the government created a works' progress administration it could create jobs to repair the crumbling infrastrucutre and either borrow or tax the money out of these rich pinheaded assholes

And the deficit? we could pay it off however slow or fast as we wanted. it would never matter.

They don't get it. they're trapped in supply line thinking to the point where they don't realize businesses are hoarding like upwards of 5 trillion in cash reserves their taxes have been cut six ways from sunday they have huge war chest to do real damage with and on top of all that .

So basically expanding credit with the expectation of being repaid by giving it to people who can't afford to repay credit is what causes bubbles.

Expanding the money supply doesn't. If the dnc dscc or dccc send you mailers, send that link back to them and tell them you won't send money to people who defend democrats who betray progressive principals!

        •  expanding the money supply to spend it on .. (0+ / 0-)

Stimulus and government jobs and SPEND it rather then LEND it is NOT bubble economics.

so keynes has been tarballed for what milton friedman did.
