    I don't think Americans are necessarily war-weary.  As tragic as US casualties were in Afghanistan and Iraq, especially to those involved, we sustained far higher losses proportionately in Korea and Vietnam (not to mention the world wars).

    I think what happened with Syria is a basic lack of trust in the representations of the US Government.  Even supporters of Obama's initial push to strike Assad felt uneasy relying on any representations of US agencies and felt compelled to cite intelligence from those of governments that were not military partners in this (e.g. Britain, Germany, the EU).

    This is the deep and long term legacy of the Bush betrayals.  Americans no longer will give a green light for adventures based on the word of a President, even one they voted for.  We have come a long, long way from JFK's "bear any burden" speech.

    Maybe that's a good thing.  Time will tell.

    Unfortunately, sometimes it may mean doing nothing when we should do something.
