  •  it appears it all began when a lady heard a knock (26+ / 0-)

at her door and determined an African American male was on her front porch when she opened the door.  She then called 911, apparently being disturbed by his appearance.  There is so much that is unanswered in the reports so far but, for those of us who advise our African American sons, relatives and friends to be very very afraid, even when going about the routine activities of everyday life, this appears to be validation that we are not too paranoid but are maybe not paranoid enough.

    •  The verbs used were telling (7+ / 0-)

He "charged" at them. How about ran at them?

He "viciously" pounded on the door?
      Viciously? What they hell.

And tell me how many robbers announce themselves by pounding on the door?!

As a woman living alone, the thought of anyone  knocking on my door late at night terrifies me.  A friend of mine "jokingly" was tapping on my window at night:  I was scared to death.

But for god sake why didn't she listen to him?

He looks like such a nice young man too. :(

      •  you really have to question the training of cops (3+ / 0-)

these days.  It appears Barney Fife does not only have multiple bullets (compared to the proverbial one) but also has tasers and SWAT gear and armored vehicles.

I note cops in NYC decided to subdue a guy acting erratically (running out in traffic like he wanted to be run over) by shooting him.  This 9mm edema did not prove effective for the guy's mental illness but the cops did shoot two bystanders when they missed the guy they were shooting at

Here is the very latest on the story:

Does anyone know about the Reedy Creek area of the city since that is the address where this happened?  After all the apologists for George Zimmerman made the repeated point that the gated community where he lived was "under siege from crime"

The home looked expensive.  Oh, read the comments on PoliceOne regarding the NYPD shooting: shockingly they are not all supportive and the ones that aren't are heavily critical. One of them stated there are more "freefire" zones in the U.S then he experienced in Iraq.
Of course there are the usual mouthbreathers on there, but few sane voices are usually from the usual users. e.g. J.Colter is nearly always reasonable. And a proud liberal, who wanted to join the Occupy protesters but he was on patrol.
This is really tragic for us and for the decent Peace Officers who are appalled at their fellow officers

It is very dangerous at worst to speak out against the bad eggs. I have a couple of links of officers that did if you're interested

is a fairly upscale area, lots of trees and newer housing developments. Not a crime-ridden neighborhood at all. I'm in the area a few times a week because there's a nice public dog park there.
