  •  That incident was before his military service (5+ / 0-)

According to the Navy, he enlisted in 2007.

    His Navy service is here.

Usually you are first enlisted and go into the reserve after you leave active service or not?

      •  It doesn't say. (4+ / 0-)

He did 3 1/2 years, which argues for a regular navy hitch, but is not conclusive.  Generally USNR is (or used to be) a 2-3 year hitch, followed by several years of active reserve (1 weekend of drilling a month), while USN is (or was) 4+ years of active duty followed by up to 6 years ready reserve (you keep your uniforms in case war breaks out, but are not required to drill).

The record as published says nothing much about him.  He went to basic, then to A School to learn to be an AE, spent a month waiting for an assignment, and then spent 3 years at a maintenance squadron (VR) doing general work.  That assignment means no going overseas, and his only ribbons are for breathing.  No commendations, no noted infractions.  he was in long enough for another promotion (barely) but didn't get it.  It reads like a basic, B-Flat, nothing special service record.  One of those guys who did their time, and didn't stand out.

    •  It was the 2nd incident, a 2011 incident in (4+ / 0-)

Ft. Worth where he fired into ceiling of his apartment while "cleaning" his weapon (nearly hitting the resident in the unit above) that led to the discharge for misconduct.
