  •  i don't think we are trying to "equalize" because (0+ / 0-)

that will take centuries to correct (and for a new group to be targeted to come along).  i think that generalization is the issue.

when problems are generalized, then it is easy to take the individual out of the equation.  as a woman who grew up in the segregated south and watched it unravel (thankfully), we will never get any real progress until we confront individual unconcious bigots one at a time.  by pointing them to their real beliefs - ones that they don't consciously realize they hold, only then will they make the choice to change them.

there are many good people out there who make bad assumptions (like the woman who answered the door).  we need to reach those people and ask them to examine their perceptions of those around them.

i KNOW as a white person i have an advantage, JUST as i know that as a woman, i have disadvantage next to my white male counterpart.

we are losing the battles to change society with the influx of hate radio and tv and the extremist mantras that go unchallenged.

we USED to have a media with a voice - no more. how we can change society now is through social media and by reaching the next generation.

it's going to be a long sad slog, i'm afraid, unless we find a way to make bigotry unprofitable.

EdriesShop Is it kind? is it true? is it necessary?
