  •  I think just to label Occupy a failure and leave (11+ / 0-)

it at that only tells a part of the story.

Occupy failed in some respects and succeeded in some respects.

Occupy succeeded in fundamentally changing the national conversation, and..

In a country where the ruling class owns
    the message...

In a country where the people have had their analytical  ability channeled into blue team/red team, with extremely narrow parameters for debate...

In a country where talking about income inequality gets you called "Communist" "Socialist" Anarchist"...

Changing the narrative was a huge accomplishment!

They took some of the stuffing out of the capitalist press.

They took a step in the right direction to move us from the Blue Team/Red Team narrowed focus and put it a little more into our National Consciousness that there are only 2 real teams: the 99% v the 1%.

They got people thinking about income inequality outside of any ideological framework. "99% v 1%" is simplistic, yes, but it also hits folks in the gut, makes them take a second look at their inadequate bank accounts and ask, "Why?"  We are trained to think that our financial difficulties are due to our own inadequacies. But  99% v 1% helps people to see that, perhaps, there is something wrong with our economic system rather than simply blaming ourselves for our economic problems.
