been losing ground. The top down approach that the current unions are using was not what built unions, it was a bottom up approach. And the union movement won a lot of their demands through strikes prior to Taft-Hartley and the following regulations. And then they were defanged by legislation and accepted it. Now we're where we are because of it.

    •  Sure. Unions need to reinvent themselves. (0+ / 0-)

I've been saying that for years and perhaps they are. Look at the $15.00 per hour strikes, occurring even before the unions have gotten there. They need a repeal r modification of Taft-Hartley and such. They need corporations to jump through as many hoops to spend a dollar on political stuff as they do. Or eliminate the spending of money by corporations an unions as well. Unions can still organize and volunteer time for campaigns. Even if money not spent by private citizens were outlawed they'd still be a force to be reckoned with.

Come to think of it, why aren't OWS and unions teaming up? Again, I think the unions may well be willing to. But would that still be too 'political' for some OWS stalwarts?

      •  OWS and Unions *did* team up (2+ / 0-)

And in many cases the connections are still there and strong. OWS couldn't have happened without union help.

And changing T-H means electoral victory or influence outside of elections. Most of what you're talking about requires those things.

        •  Good. That was not so much on my radar (0+ / 0-)

Perhaps from there it will be one more step towards taking back the Democratic party. That's an occupation we all need.
