  •  It's not just guns (4+ / 0-)

People have given up on government on every issue of substance, because they know we mere lowlife will be given a mouthful of lies and then dismissed with contemptuous disdain  This is true whether the issue is guns, war and peace, jobs and income inequality, sociual justice, preserving the environment, we've learned the hard way.  In this system we simply do not matter, this is a nation of the overlords, by the overlords, for the overlords, and if you're not part of the ruling overlord class you can just sit down and STFU if you don't want to be ridiculed and marginalized (if not tased, pepper-sprayed, beaten and jailed) by our establishment betters.

but inaction is still action.  It is also the preferred action of the ruling class from us.  Did you know that the response to Dr. Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech was not the Civil Rights bill?  It was the bombing of the church that killed those four little girls?  That had been the 20 something bombings of a church in Alabama that year.  Sustained protesting (in some instances years), education, and voting can truly change things.  Whenever I get weary or weak I think about everything that those before me fought & died for to make life better for the next generation.  We've got to look deep within ourselves and be willing to sacrifice for the next generation like those before us did for us.
