    Actually, no.

Gun violence and mass murders will continue to be commonplace.  It is far easier to give up, give in to fear and buy a gun to "protect" yourself than to fight for what is needed.

The 1% will continue to turn the rest of us into serfs; hell, even most Kossacks here shop at Walmart and think nothing of it. Imagine that - workers in the early 20th century had their heads busted, were shot at, put out of a job for years, stood in bread/soup lines, etc. all to earn the rights we have today.  And now, we can't even boycott Walmart to try and end the loss of jobs, benefits, stagnant wages, etc.

The right to vote will continue to be taken away.

In the end, this is how our democratic republic ends, not with a bang, but with an apathetic whimper.  Make no mistake, the 1% aren't the only ones who have an "I got mine" attitude - so does the middle class, so do the working poor, etc. As long as I have a paycheck, a roof, my cable TV, fuck everyone else, I'm not risking it.

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear. ~William E. Gladstone, 1866

response.  All of that may be true.  However, the past actually does inspire me to dream of how I want to see the future as it should be and not be rooted to the realities of the present.  I have the blood of American slaves running through my veins.  To go from slavery to where I am now gives me hope that change can happen even when ALL institutions and/or people are against you.  I choose hope.
