it's because she's not Larry Summers, and because she's a woman.  Yeah, we need more women in the halls of power -- but please, can't they at least be good ones?

I think that progressives largely rallied to her because she was the alternative to Summers.

But economists - including those who would consider themselves liberals, like Krugman - are extremely enthusiastic about her, partly because she has better credentials than just about anyone.

Also, I think they are more forgiving of people who stray from the orthodox views at times, which was kind of the point of this diary.

urging us to support Yellen -- and to sign a petition to the President to appoint a woman.

        2 + 2 = . . . ?

that this is another case where Actually Better isn't even on the menu.  The best we can hope for is Not As Bad As the Other Guy. A depressing state of affairs to be sure, but sadly not unique.

Unfortunately, even if they would be considered for the job, most of the people we could come up with (Stiglitz? Krugman?) wouldn't take the job anyway.

Any idea of people up for the gig that would actually be worth supporting?

You may think that. I couldn't possibly comment.-- Francis Urqhart

I think we've learned as much by now.
