Brazil to try to break US's hold on internet

I figure that the US has broken the internet now.

Hi NSA. I am doing constitutionally protected stuff - like free speech. Too bad you are not!

i've run a couple of stories over the last couple of nights about dilma rousseff cancelling a state visit after obama failed to satisfactorily explain what the nsa has been doing in brazil.

it looks to me like there will be a number of efforts to wrest control of the internet from the us over a period of time.  our powers that be have really screwed up bigtime and this may become the point at which the internet pulls apart at the seams.

hayden the other day copped to the fact that the us was responsible for militarizing the internet.  but it's more than that.  the us has tried to dominate the internet, both through us (private sector) corporate structures and through "international" regulatory bodies.  what it comes down to is that the us has attempted to both privatize and militarily dominate the global commons.

the government has probably screwed up a real opportunity for mankind to develop a true social space where people-to-people interactions can happen which have the potential to create a very different world.  that transformative potential was something that american elites apparently felt threatened enough by to seek to control it or destroy it if it can't be controlled.

      i'm part of the 99% - america's largest minority
