  •  And it's built into their business model (0+ / 0-)

The other news outlets aren't much better, but at least with CBS, ABC, or NBC, there is the potential that they would run the news department as a loss leader and say, "Who cares how much money news loses or what ratings it gets, as long as we make it up from our other programming?"

But when you have a network that is based entirely around news, there isn't any other profit center to make up for news losing money. For CNN (or any other all-news channel) to be successful, the news has to make money.

It took years for it to get this bad, but the seeds of destruction were planted the day that Ted Turner decided to create an all-news network. It cannot work.

We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

    •  Don't forget PBS. They do fairly well. (0+ / 0-)

All of their stuff runs on grants, sponsors, a little bit of government money and donations from people.

They don't need to make a profit.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
