  •  Say what?! (0+ / 0-)
    most violence is suicide
    More 'statistics' from thin air?

The 2013 Bureau of Justice Report on Firearm Violence available here neither discusses nor includes suicide in its report. It discusses only firearm-related homicide and nonfatal firearm violence, including rape, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple assault.

The most salient point in the report, often ignored by gun proponents, is that firearm violence has dramatically dropped between 1993 and 1999: from 1.5 million incidents per year, to less 460,000 incidents per year.

It would be nice to see a discussion of what lead to such a drop in firearm violence.

    •  It was the diarist, not ban nock, that conflated (0+ / 0-)

"violence" with "deaths". ban nock was quite clearly playing with that conflation.

And yes, most gun deaths in the US are suicides.

You've got to learn to stop calling people liars.

      •  Absolutely false (4+ / 0-)

The diarist did not conflate homicide with violence. He cited two studies, one which looked homicides, and one that looked at homicides and non-fatal violence (the same study I cited above).

Suicides were not counted in either study. Ban Nock and you are making disingenuous attempts to conflate suicide with violence so as to make firearms appear less ... violent.

I have not yet called anyone a liar, and I will continue to point out when people are making unfounded and unsourced assertions to support their position.
