  •  Sadly, there is now a difference between the two. (7+ / 0-)

There was a time when the difference between "Communications" and "Journalism" was the difference in media.

Now you can't tell the difference between the medium and the message...it's all entertainment, bread and circuses.

Or, as one wag put it:

If you get a bunch of clowns together, you're gonna have a circus.

We cannot call ourselves a civilised society if we refuse to protect the weakest among us.

    •  Back in the olden days (as I'm sure you vividly (5+ / 0-)

recall), network news shows were not looked at as profit centres but were part of the networks' public service obligations.  News was much more reliable then, I think.  You only had to be aware of the possibility of errors of omission.  Now you have to worry about commission, too.

      Love that quote.

We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. B. Franklin

the news departments were no longer separate from the entertainment areas and were subject to "ratings"...all was lost.

News is news and 'tainment is 'tainment and never the tale should wag the dog.

        Or some such.

Wish I could remember where I heard the quote...but I use it more and more often these days, as you can probably guess.
