  •  We forget too easily the human dignity and (20+ / 0-)

compassion that the American labor union movement, the New Deal, and the Great Society brought to all of us. And now the barbarians are at the gate, attempting to flush all of it away and send us down the metaphoric societal sewer.

"Full employment" and "right to... be rich" for the 1%. Just a cynical joke for the rest of us.

    •  Kombema, I love this: (10+ / 0-)

And I would add, before we forgot it, we took it for granted. Nothing is to be taken for granted, and it seems we all have to learn that sad lesson again and again.

      •  Yes, as my grandfather used to passionately repeat (10+ / 0-)

(often): The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Only HE didn't mean what the moron Teabaggers do when they use the phrase. He meant freedom from want, and poverty, and oppression by the more powerful and wealthy, and the freedoms of the Bill of Rights.

We did take it all for granted, and many of our so-called allies don't even understand to this day how painful and hard-won the sacrifices were to get us the dignity of the middle and working classes -- or how easily all of it can be -- and is being -- lost.

Got to scream from the rafters about the peril of conceding to the plutocrats and bullies yet again. Our neo-Guilded Age will create another Great Depression unless we can wrest control of the country back from the over-privileged. There is no GD reason that poor woman under the overpass should be in that position while living in the richest society in modern history.
