    I don't believe it's a stalemate. Just this morning I read reports of major splits between the jihadist rebels and the rest of the rebels. That seems inevitable. Unless Assad's military is not able to feed its soldiers, which I doubt, I don't see his forces splitting from him. It seems like if Assad can keep up the fight long enough, he'll eventually stop people from resupplying the rebels, while keeping his own supplies coming in.

    That's not really a stalemate. That's "time is on Assad's side". So maybe the offer to ceasefire is just stalling, which gets the rest of the world off Assad's case while the rebellion collapses from infighting.

    Then in a few months, "game on!" and Assad wins.
