  •  I hear you but it doesn't have to be that way. (7+ / 0-)

If they already think they will lose, what do they have to lose by fighting like hell? May be surprised if they can be bold and frame it.

Erin Brockovich was more than a movie,.

...to appear "appropriately coal friendly" but not necessarily lock herself into unconditionally supporting more coal mining: how coal retirees are treated after the mining companies have essentially discarded them. I expect Grimes to use the same "blueprint" in KY. The key is not to try to "win the coal issue" but to make it as close to "wash" as possible. Tennant and Grimes can win if other issues get some attention.

I think both women know that Big Coal really doesn't help their base voters and that the real long term job potential is in cleaning up the mess that Big Carbon has left and continues to leave behind.

people are forced to decide, and that's why it works. WHen there is no other major industry in an area, employers like coal exploit.

People's water has been poisoned before and it will be again. The question is how bad does it have to get before people won't tolerate it, because dying also gets in the way of employment.

History tells us people will put up with a whole lot.
