    •  CoveredCA is misleading, calling it a "tax credit" (1+ / 0-)

No wonder so many people are confused. If the credit comes out immediately, that is better for you and me, but it is still ultimately coming from the same place.

But my main point was that this is a subsidy to the health insurance companies, not to the taxpayers.  And it costs more tax dollars to do that than a public health plan would. But somehow the Republicans, supposedly Taxed Enough Already, don't even care. All the Republican leaders care about is keeping a Democrat from getting anything worthwhile done, and all the Republican followers care about is preventing the poor from receiving any government assistance whatsoever.

And these facts should be blaring out of every media-hole just as loudly as the FUD and astroturf and hyperbole from the right, but it's not.

      •  yes, i accept your point - especially since i have (0+ / 0-)

no idea what the $ amounts are.  on the other hand, an offset is all the money individuals aren't paying out of their own pockets for premiums, copays, ignored medical conditions, er visits, etc. -  which probably comes to a sizeable sum.

This money will help them put food on the table, keep the car going, pay bills, etc.

In other words, quite a stimulus which should lighten the burden on various safety net programs.

And that is before considering the reduction in lost work days and the jobs that are expected in the healthcare and related industries.
