  •  In order not to have to admit their antagonism (10+ / 0-)

towards the populace, the philosophical premise they advance is that having once consented to adopt the Constitution, no further consent is required. That is, the citizens' subordination to the Constitution (rule of law) is a mirror of the traditional marriage vow, "until death do us part." It also appeals to the mentality of the believers in original sin in that being born an American is like baptism removing original sin before the innocent babe has any inclination to follow through on his evil heritage.
Religion and the rule of law are both premised on the notion that man is created evil and society was invented to make him good, whether he wants to be good, or not. This is where the coercive aspect of the culture of obedience comes in.
Given the right prejudices or preconceived notions, the whole regimen is logically consistent. Of course, since the premises are false, it's also wrong. But, it satisfies the desire to make other human beings do one's bidding. Humans have to be subservient because being disobedience is the essence of evil--not the deception with which Satan tricked Eve.

    •  Garden variety sadistic sociopaths (7+ / 0-)

They're twisted people who think their wants and needs are more important than any person, law or institution.  They're totally self absorbed and have no real relationships with or feelings for others, only using them to get what they want.  They're incapable of feeling most human emotions.  They feel laws don't apply to them, but are sometimes charming enough to twist facts to justify their selfishness to others.

Specifically, sadistic sociopaths are those who not only manipulate others, they also derive a perverse pleasure from inflicting pain and suffering.
