  •  The left should emulate the ALEC model (1+ / 0-)

Its failure to do so is the main reason that it's lost so many battles it shouldn't have, that had, or should and would have had, majority support, something many of ALEC's legislative accomplishments haven't had, had the left done a better sales job. And if you don't believe me, recall Margaret Mead's words:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
Take out the word "thoughtful" and this describes ALEC (along with the Moral Majority, neocons, neolibs, etc.). Put it back in and it would describe the left.

What does ALEC do that makes it so successful? It's organized, disciplined, has leaders, goals, an agenda, and a smart strategy, that it implements with ruthless precision and not a lot of fanfare. I.e. in every way possible, the exact opposite of OWS, which miserably failed to accomplish anything tangible.

The fact that we're still debating that just proves my point. The left is great at complaining, whining, getting outraged and morally indignant. What it is NOT great at is actually DOING something about it.

ALEC is. Which is why it's winning and the left is losing.

    •  Right on (0+ / 0-)

Or should I say "Left on", since the Right is wrong and the Left is right.

Here's another quote along the same lines as Margaret's thinking:

"All it takes for evil to succeed is for a few good men to do nothing"

      - Edmund Burke

I agree with you about creating a leftward version of ALEC.
