NancyWH, Val, DRo mainly just repeats standard progressive talking points without really saying anything new.

And as a Texan myself, I think that the article misses one of the really key points about what is wrong with the Texas model for attracting business.

Simply put, it is unsustainable.  Right now, Texas is underinvesting in education, underinvesting in infrastructure and transportation, and under-regulating.  In the short term, that provides an attractive environment for business.

Over the long run, not so much.  Right  now, Texas imports educated workers from other states -- a model that works only as long as other states are willing to continue funding education better than Texas does.  But a "low taxes" race to the bottom could well dry up the supply of educated workers willing to come here.

Meanwhile, our roads deteriorate, and our environment gets more polluted because we're not willing to spend enough on transportation and we're not willing to regulate the industries that pollute.  At some point, the roads and the environment will become crappy enough that they'll start driving businesses away.

So the dirty secret is that the Texas model for attracting businesses can only work for a limited time.  Then it falls in on itself.

And that's the thing that isn't being talked about in articles like the one linked in this diary.
