Published around 1990, The Quincunx (spoiler alert) is a mystery/novel set in Victorian England.  The subject matter and the masterful telling seem like Dickens on steroids, and makes Bleak House seem like Sunnybrook Farm.

Rmoneyites should love the scenes that take place in "quiet rooms".  Teapublican Congresscritters should get starbursts reading how their Victorian counterparts grind the downtrodden further into misery.

As one Amazon reviewer puts it:

Just when you think something good will happen, it doesn't.
