  •  I think the GOP is doing exactly what this (8+ / 0-)

passage decries.  They are taking advantage of the good deeds of churches and conning them into thinking that it is their job to make up the difference when social government supports are cut.  I have spoken with a pastor in our community that basically had bought the con.  He told me that it was the church's duty to feed the hungry, etc.  I told him it was not feasible given that most of the church people in our community were struggling just to keep the doors open and carry on their current charities.  The nun's on the bus leader, I think Sister Simone, testified to that effect in the congressional hearing.  She stated that churches will not be able to make up the difference in the food stamp cuts, it will be just too enormous.  She speaks from experience since Catholic Charities is the number one source of food and other supports when it comes to church help.  The Mennonite relief fund is also a huge mission.

I thank you for this diary as I now know how to speak to this misunderstanding and con.  The rich take all of the nation's wealth unto themselves and then con the church groups into thinking they must feed the poor the rich have created.  I am going to make great hay with this I assure you.  For a non believer you sure know how to find the right come back to this con.  Thanks again.
