  •  I'm always perplexed by people who say that (16+ / 0-)

this type of hit-piece propaganda doesn't work.  Also, when one points out that the mainstream media is an outright propaganda campaign for the one percent some people take issue with that.

I think that one of the major problems we face is that a large segment of the population hasn't come to terms with the true nature of the system: It's an Oligarchy; the mainstream media is a propaganda machine; the surveillance/security apparatus' main function is to protect the ruling class and to oppress the population.

Before there is any hope at addressing the social dysfunction caused by this reality, people would have to awake to these facts on the ground.

As long as people think we are dealing with an up-and-up legitimate system all attempts at dealing with challenges we face will fail; because we are directing our energies away from the root causes of the problem(s).

This is why I'm such a johnny-one-note about the rising hegemony of capital.  It seems clear that people don't grasp how pervasive a hegemonic order is.  It isn't just political or economic, it's both of the above and social, cultural and even intellectual as well.  It's totalitarianism in an Erlenmayer flask.
