  •  America's Cup Update. Oracle wins another one. (5+ / 0-)

Ok, despite despising Larry Ellison with every fiber of my being. Today the wind was too light to race sailboats. So the 1st race went off at 1:45pm instead of 1:15. This meant that there was not enough time to get a 2nd race in today.

Oracle needs to win 4 of the remaining 4 races to keep the Cup in SF. The Kiwi's are stuck on match point and only need to win ONE!

Oracle won today. Fucking Handily. The boats are really even so the boat that gets the lead at the start has been winning. That would be the evil Larry Ellison. No CT here. Larry brought on a new tactician made a few changes and Oracle Team USA has been kicking ass.

If the Kiwi's win ONE tomorrow - it's over. If Oracle wins both - we go to Wednesday with an 8-8 tie. And it will be one race and it's done.

Right now - I am Larry's biggest supporter. I want him to win 2 races tomorrow. Forcing a Wednesday 1 race head to this thing. If this happens, we will be on the 7:45am ferry from Vallejo to the SF Ferry Building. It will be something not to be missed.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

      •  Oh yes. And since the wind was light today, both (4+ / 0-)

teams loaded their Code Zero sails. NZ deployed theirs first, Oracle deployed 2nd and then they both put them away as the delay in the racing allowed the wind to build. The vertical wings are the primary sails for both boats. This America's Cup is so technologically different from the past that it isn't funny. But the rules still require manpower - so - those daggers on the sides and the movement of the carbon fiber "sail" still require "grinders". If you were watching when team NZ almost flipped their boat a couple of weeks ago - there was audio of the skipper shouting "hydro" "hydro" "hydro". And the grinders were grinding away even though the boat was going to the sky - why? It is the grinders that provide the hydraulics that run the foils, rudders and sail.

Even though these boats are so technologically advanced and computers are hooked to everything - it still comes down to a a human crew that runs the rudders and foils and daggers and the sails.

That is why it is so freakin cool.

        •  And I will add - as much as I despise Larry (3+ / 0-)

If Oracle wins this thing, I will not be upset. I just hope that the rules will be changed so that more challengers can afford to play.

          •  Yes, the boats are engineering feats (4+ / 0-)

but the race is the epitome of "let them eat cake."

Billionaires race plastic boats in Sf Bay while GOP votes for millions to starve this winter..

            •  Yep! When we went to the America's Cup Pavilion a (4+ / 0-)

couple of weeks ago. I was totally disgusted with the private boats docked alongside the America's Cup Pavilion. It was a total smack in the face of the Haves and the Have Nots. I will go and watch the race. I will not spend a fucking dime that enriches these motherfuckers. The prices at the pavilion were insane. Guess what, I don't need your 12 dollar burrito or 13 dollar beer! Pound Sand!

We went to the Pier 23 restaurant and bought 2 bowls of clam chowder and a couple of beers. It was pretty good. Support local business!

    •  Update! Real sailors might read my rants about (0+ / 0-)

this and say - geee - she is fulla shit!

Ok, the DH was a Sea Scout as a kid. Whatever! He is really good on tying knots and kinda ok on this sailing right of way stuff. Which if you are sailing - you better know who has the right of way! Most folks think that if you are sailing a sail boat - you have the right of way. You are so wrong. Any vessel that is parked (say, fishing at anchor) has priority. Go around them. Now lets get into the America's Cup Rules. Or not. Fuck that. It is too complicated. If the wind is to your port side - yer fucked. If the wind is to your starboard side - yer fucked. Because the bottom line is - if your name is NOT Larry Ellison - you will not win the Americas Cup. Just get the fuck over it. Really.
