    To the great fortune of the ostensible victim, and my utter surprise, a deus ex machina interloper appeared and spared the likely outcome of a life & death situation.

    This one is a little different. The expected victim was in an important way a perpetrator; someone engaged in dangerous behavior for personal gain, beyond the point when circumstances had turned deadly, and it's behavior that is often copied.

    There is a morality to the way I chose to make a point, but the choice was one that was under-thought which accordingly had the most irreversible consequences imaginable, and I'd never go about it that way now.

    So-o-o-o, I'm pretty sure that my next time around this is gonna cost me.

    How moral am I? Probably not much different now from then, but a lot better informed and better prepared for that kind of decision now than then.
