    A sort of emotional addiction.

    I think that many of these people, if you could talk to them before they became addicted, would not want to belong to a group that started unnecessary wars, had policies which led to shootings in schools, and destroyed the air they breathe and the water they drank - they would be against it.

    But now they are addicted to the talk which supports these policies and they can't break away.

    The problem with not realizing that it is an addiction is that we, the left, try to have rational discussions with them.  And we cannot until we break the addiction.

      but I don't believe it is really restricted to an emotional addiction.

      You know, you might be addicted to affection, but there is an actual chemical component to that.  You get affection and your brain rewards you with happy endorphins and whatever else.

      If you're addicted to rage and a sense of being wronged, then your brain rewards you when you get it and asks for more when it doesn't get it.  

      Turning on Fox is like drinking a shot of vodka. At least, that's how it works for the true Tea Party types who aren't in on the scam.
