  •  Reading the article it seems so (23+ / 0-)

They knew the stuff had been discovered, and resigned; with the discovery only now being made public. And sounds like the board hasn't exactly accepted the resignations yet, meaning they could reject the resignation and make plans to fire them instead. From another article dated Sept. 11:

Como and Donato both have formally submitted letters of resignation. The board will vote on those matters at the next board meeting on Sept. 24.

      •  One article suggested they were going to (15+ / 0-)

        Until all this blew up.

On Sunday the Daily Local News published excerpts of the transcripts and a timeline of events established by two sources with knowledge of the district’s internal investigation. Those sources also indicated that the school board was not only aware of the text messages, but was prepared to allow the pair to remain in their positions until the messages were leaked to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

Hard to believe it would be unanimous, given that...

School board member Dr. Tonya Thames Taylor has also repeatedly said that district officials could not comment .....Taylor said Sunday during the 75th anniversary celebration of the Coatesville NAACP. In addition to her duties on the school board, Taylor also serves as president of the local NAACP.

        •  From your Daily Local link: (19+ / 0-)
The school board is scheduled to decide whether to accept or deny the resignations at Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting. A coalition of Coatesville parents and taxpayers are expected to arrive en masse at Tuesday’s meeting armed with a petition demanding the school board not to accept the resignations, and instead hold off on the decision until all internal and external investigations are completed and the two are cleared of any wrongdoing.
The article also says that 1,100 people have signed this petition!!

Who in their right mind would not consider these text messages "wrongdoing"? Whoa.

I do not understand the world I live in. I truly do not.

          Thanks, catte nappe.

          •  DO NOT ACCEPT THEIR RSIGNATIONS! (13+ / 0-)

Fire them for cause, instead. No benefits extended. I got no benefits when I was let go by a non-profit simply because I was not "up to" the job. No complaints from me, it was true; I wasn't qualified and was a fish out of water. But, by God, at least I tried. I gave it my best shot, and did not trash the place while I was there. Don't allow them the dignity of resigning...FIRE THEM!

My God, it's full of stars!

And given it's a small local paper the reporter may not be so good on nuance.

Without seeing the petition I could see lots of people signing on to not accept the resignations unless they are cleared of wrong doing by both internal and external investigations. That would be a whole different message. And one more in alignment with what seems to be the community reaction.

I read it several times and did not get what you are saying, but I will be thrilled if I am wrong. The idea of 1,100 people being in favor of what they wrote makes me ill.

Board met last night, and accepted the resignations:

The Coatesville Area School Board voted Tuesday to accept the resignations of two former senior administrators in a meeting packed with more than a thousand angry parents and taxpayers who demanded the board fire the pair instead.
As the members of the school board walked across the stage and into their seats at the start of the meeting they were met with a chorus of heavy boos and angry chants calling for them to resign.

Vote was 6 to 1, but article doesn't indicate who the hold out was.

        •  "Board Pres. Called Texts 'Sickening'"... (6+ / 0-)

..."The racist and sexist language expressed by these two men was sickening...

...and obviously unacceptable," school board President Neil Campbell said in the statement, released after the texts were obtained and published by The Daily Local News of West Chester...

Parents demand firings over reported racist text messages...

...Some parents are demanding the firings of two top administrators of a large southeastern Pennsylvania school district who resigned following reports that they exchanged racist and sexist text messages on their district phones...

The board is scheduled to vote Tuesday night on accepting the Aug. 29 resignations...But some parents of children in the district tell The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/... ) they want the men fired outright...

      •  Possible? Yes. (4+ / 0-)

Coatesville sux. And much of Pennsyltucky is incredibly racist.

They won't admit it, of course, but you hear stuff...esp. when black people aren't around.
